For a richer flavor, use a full-bodied red wine. Adjust the amount of sugar to your liking. If you prefer a less sweet marinade, reduce the sugar to 2 tablespoons. To add a touch of heat, include a pinch of red pepper flakes to the marinade. This marinade can also be used as a glaze. Brush it onto the meat or vegetables during the last few minutes of cooking.
