Follow The Directions

01

Step
1 hrs

Prepare the Ribs: In a large pot, submerge the ribs in water. Add the lemon juice. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 1 hour, or until the meat is tender. Drain the ribs thoroughly and transfer them to large resealable plastic bags. (1 hour)

02

Step
30 mins

Create the Spicy Marinade: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the picante sauce, brown sugar, barbecue sauce, minced garlic, prepared mustard, Worcestershire sauce, jalapeno peppers, and chopped red onion. Season with salt and ground black pepper. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened slightly. (30 minutes)

03

Step
8 hrs

Marinate the Ribs: Pour the prepared marinade over the ribs in the plastic bags. Seal the bags tightly, ensuring that the ribs are well coated in the marinade. Refrigerate for at least 8 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to fully penetrate the meat. (8 hours or overnight)

04

Step
15 mins

Grill the Ribs: Preheat your grill to high heat. Lightly oil the grill grate to prevent sticking. Remove the ribs from the marinade, discarding the remaining marinade. Season the ribs evenly with crushed red pepper flakes for an extra kick. Place the ribs on the preheated grill and cook for 10 to 20 minutes, turning once halfway through, until they are beautifully browned and crisp, with a slight char. (10-20 minutes)

05

Step

Serve: Remove the ribs from the grill and let them rest for a few minutes before serving. These spicy ribs are delicious served with potato salad, baked beans, coleslaw, or your favorite barbecue sides.

For a milder flavor, remove the seeds and membranes from the jalapeno peppers before chopping.
If you don't have fresh jalapenos, you can substitute 1-2 teaspoons of dried red pepper flakes in the marinade.
For extra smoky flavor, use wood chips (such as hickory or mesquite) in a smoker box on your grill while cooking the ribs.
These ribs can also be cooked in the oven. Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C), place ribs on a baking sheet, and bake for 2-2.5 hours, or until tender.
