Follow The Directions

01

Step
5 mins

Combine all ingredients in a 6-quart or larger slow cooker: chopped cabbage, diced rutabaga, orzo pasta, minced onion, minced garlic, chopped dill, water, and vegetable broth. (5 minutes)

02

Step
2 mins

Stir well to ensure even distribution of ingredients. (2 minutes)

03

Step
9 hrs

Cover the slow cooker and cook on Low for 5 to 9 hours, or until the vegetables are tender and the orzo is cooked through, thickening the soup slightly. Cooking time may vary depending on your slow cooker. (5-9 hours)

For a richer flavor, sauté the onion and garlic in a tablespoon of olive oil before adding them to the slow cooker.
Adjust the amount of water to achieve your desired soup consistency. Add more if you prefer a thinner soup.
For a heartier meal, add cooked chicken, sausage, or chickpeas during the last hour of cooking.
This soup freezes well. Allow it to cool completely before transferring it to freezer-safe containers.
If you don’t have fresh dill, 1 tablespoon of dried dill can be substituted, but fresh dill is preferable.
