Follow The Directions

01

Step

Prepare your grill: Preheat your gas or charcoal grill to medium-high heat (approximately 375°F or 190°C). (5 minutes)

02

Step

Prep the onion: Peel the onion, leaving the root end intact. Place the onion on a cutting board and carefully slice it from the top down, stopping about 1/2 inch from the root. Make 6 to 8 evenly spaced cuts, creating wedges that resemble a flower blossom. Gently pull apart the wedges to create openings.

03

Step

Season and butter: Tuck small pieces of butter in between the onion wedges, distributing them evenly. Sprinkle garlic salt and freshly ground black pepper generously over the onion, ensuring it gets into the crevices.

04

Step

Wrap and grill: Wrap the prepared onion tightly in aluminum foil, creating a sealed packet. Place the foil packet directly on the preheated grill grates. (2 minutes)

05

Step

Grill to perfection: Cook for 45 minutes, or until the onion is completely tender and translucent. The butter will melt and infuse the onion with flavor, and the edges will caramelize slightly.

06

Step

Serve: Carefully remove the foil packet from the grill. Open the foil and let the steam escape for a moment. Serve the grilled onion blossom immediately. (2 minutes)

For a richer flavor, consider adding a sprinkle of grated Parmesan cheese along with the garlic salt and pepper.
If you don't have a grill, you can bake the onion blossom in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for the same amount of time.
Experiment with different seasonings! Try adding a pinch of smoked paprika, chili powder, or your favorite herb blend.
Be careful when opening the foil packet after grilling, as hot steam will escape.
