For a richer flavor, use aged Parmesan cheese. Adjust the amount of red pepper flakes to your preference. Blanching the broccoli can be done a day or two in advance. Store the blanched broccoli in an airtight container in the refrigerator. If you don't have brown sugar, you can substitute with a pinch of regular sugar or maple syrup.
