Follow The Directions

01

Step

In a bowl, combine flour, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper. (Prep time: 5 minutes)

02

Step

Sprinkle half of the flour mixture on one side of the round steak pieces. Pound the steak until the coating is absorbed. (Prep time: 10 minutes)

03

Step

Flip the steak and coat with the remaining flour mixture. Pound the steak again until the coating is fully absorbed. Cut the steak into 6 pieces. (Prep time: 10 minutes)

04

Step

Melt vegetable shortening in a large skillet over medium heat. (Prep time: 2 minutes)

05

Step

Place the steak pieces in the hot shortening. Cook until browned, about 7 to 10 minutes per side. (Cook time: 20 minutes)

06

Step

Cover the skillet and simmer until the steak is tender, about 1 hour, adding water as needed to prevent sticking. (Cook time: 60 minutes)

07

Step

Turn the steak pieces over and add diced tomatoes, minced onion, and chopped green bell pepper to the skillet. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. (Prep time: 5 minutes)

08

Step

Simmer until the vegetables are tender, about 30 more minutes. (Cook time: 30 minutes)

For a richer flavor, try using beef broth instead of water during the simmering process.
Adding a teaspoon of smoked paprika can enhance the depth of flavor.
Serve over egg noodles, mashed potatoes, or creamy polenta for a complete meal.
Leftovers taste great the next day!
