Follow The Directions

01

Step

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). (5 minutes)

02

Step

Bring a pot of water to boil; cook peas in the boiling water until cooked through, about 5 minutes. Drain well. (10 minutes)

03

Step

In a 3-quart casserole dish, combine the cooked peas, sausage, corn, chili sauce, onion, basil, black pepper, and 1 3/4 cups of the Cheddar cheese. Mix until evenly distributed. (5 minutes)

04

Step

Bake in the preheated oven until the casserole is bubbling and heated through, approximately 30 to 40 minutes.

05

Step

Sprinkle the remaining 1/4 cup Cheddar cheese over the casserole and bake until the cheese is melted and golden brown, about 5 more minutes. (5 minutes)

06

Step

Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving. This allows the flavors to meld together and prevents burning your mouth!

For a richer flavor, use smoked Gouda or Gruyere cheese instead of Cheddar.
Add a pinch of red pepper flakes for a little heat.
This casserole is also delicious with other vegetables, such as diced bell peppers or mushrooms.
To make it a complete meal, serve with a side salad or crusty bread.
