Follow The Directions

01

Step

Combine Ingredients: Add warm water, egg, olive oil, honey, molasses, chia seeds, whole wheat flour, salt, and yeast to your bread machine pan, following the manufacturer's recommended order. (5 minutes)

02

Step

Dough Cycle: Select the 'Dough' cycle on your bread machine and let it run until completed. This typically takes around 1 hour and 30 minutes. (90 minutes)

03

Step

Shape the Buns: Once the dough cycle is finished, gently remove the dough from the machine. Lightly flour a clean surface and divide the dough into 12 equal portions. Shape each portion into a smooth, round bun. (15 minutes)

04

Step

Second Rise: Lightly coat a baking sheet with cooking spray. Arrange the shaped buns on the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between each. Cover loosely with a clean kitchen towel and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, approximately 55 minutes. (55 minutes)

05

Step

Preheat Oven: About 20 minutes before the end of the rising time, preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). (20 minutes)

06

Step

Bake: Place the baking sheet with the risen buns in the preheated oven and bake for 14-16 minutes, or until the buns are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped on the bottom. (15 minutes)

07

Step

Cool and Brush: Remove the baked buns from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for about 10 minutes. Then, transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely. While the buns are still slightly warm, brush the tops with melted butter for a richer flavor and a beautiful sheen. (20 minutes)

For a softer bun, you can substitute 1/4 cup of the whole wheat flour with all-purpose flour.
If you don't have molasses, you can substitute it with an equal amount of honey or maple syrup.
The rising time may vary depending on the temperature of your kitchen. A warmer environment will result in faster rising.
Store the cooled buns in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or freeze for longer storage.
