For an extra layer of flavor, consider adding a can of diced tomatoes and green chilies (Rotel) to the queso. Adjust the amount of cayenne pepper to your preference for spice. A pinch more or less can make a big difference! If you don't have a cast iron skillet, a regular skillet will work just fine. Just be sure to keep a close eye on the cheese as it melts to prevent burning.
