Prepare the Port Wine Sauce: In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the minced onion, garlic, and thyme. Cook, stirring frequently, until the onion is softened and translucent (about 5-7 minutes). Pour in the beef broth, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Add the port wine. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat and simmer until the sauce has reduced to about 1/2 cup and has thickened slightly (about 15-20 minutes). Set aside and keep warm, or prepare ahead and reheat gently before serving.
