Follow The Directions

01

Step

In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. (1 minute)

02

Step

Add the pecans and toast them in the melted butter, stirring constantly, until they are fragrant and lightly golden. (2-3 minutes)

03

Step

Transfer the toasted pecans to a bowl using a slotted spoon, leaving the melted butter in the pan.

04

Add the chopped apples to the pan with the reserved butter and cook, stirring occasionally, until they begin to soften. (2 minutes)

05

Step

Sprinkle the sugar over the apples and stir to combine.

06

Step

Pour in the water, add the golden raisins, and season with a pinch of salt. Stir gently to combine all ingredients. (1 minute)

07

Step

Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low and cook, stirring occasionally, until the raisins are plump and the apples are tender. (5 minutes)

08

Step

Stir in the whiskey and vanilla extract. (30 seconds)

09

Step

Return the toasted pecans to the saucepan and stir to combine. (30 seconds)

10

Step

Serve warm. Enjoy!

For a deeper flavor, try using brown sugar instead of white sugar.
If you don't have whiskey on hand, apple cider vinegar or apple juice can be used as a substitute.
The compote can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently before serving.
