Follow The Directions

01

Step

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). (5 minutes)

02

Step

In the unbaked pie shell, combine the flour and sugar. Using your fingertips, gently mix together until evenly distributed. (2 minutes)

03

Step

Pour in the milk, being careful not to disturb the crust. Again, using your fingertips, lightly mix the milk into the flour and sugar mixture. (1 minute)

04

Step

Drizzle the dark molasses evenly over the milk mixture. (1 minute)

05

Step

Dot the surface of the pie with the small pieces of butter. (1 minute)

06

Step

Sprinkle ground cinnamon evenly over the top of the pie. (30 seconds)

07

Step

Bake in the preheated oven for 10 to 15 minutes, then reduce the oven temperature to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the filling is set and the top is nicely browned. (25-30 minutes)

08

Step

Let the pie cool completely before slicing and serving. This allows the filling to fully set. (60 minutes)

For a richer flavor, use brown butter instead of regular butter.
A pinch of nutmeg or cardamom can add a warm, aromatic note.
If the crust is browning too quickly, cover the edges with foil during the last 10 minutes of baking.
Serve warm or cold, with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra treat.

So easy to make, and the flavor is surprisingly complex. The molasses adds a wonderful depth.
