Follow The Directions

01

Step

Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer's instructions. Lightly coat with non-stick cooking spray. (Time: 5 minutes)

02

Step

In a large bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flax flour, white sugar, baking powder, and baking soda. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, buttermilk, 1 tablespoon of melted butter, and vanilla extract. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined. Avoid overmixing. (Time: 5 minutes)

03

Step

Pour about 1/3 cup of batter onto the preheated waffle iron. Close the lid and bake until the waffle is golden brown and cooked through. (Time: 2-3 minutes per waffle)

04

Step

While the waffles are cooking, prepare the cinnamon drizzle. In a small, microwave-safe bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, 3 tablespoons of melted butter, hot water, and cinnamon. Microwave on High until the mixture is smooth and pourable. (Time: 10-20 seconds)

05

Step

Prepare the icing drizzle by whisking together the confectioners' sugar, skim milk (add gradually until desired consistency is reached), and the remaining 1 tablespoon of melted butter in a separate small bowl. (Time: 2 minutes)

06

Step

Place the freshly cooked waffles on a plate. Drizzle generously with the cinnamon drizzle, followed by the icing drizzle. Serve immediately and enjoy!

For an extra touch, add a pinch of nutmeg to the batter.
If you don't have buttermilk, you can make a substitute by adding 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or white vinegar to 2 cups of milk. Let it sit for 5 minutes before using.
Serve these waffles with a side of crispy bacon and fresh fruit for a complete and satisfying breakfast.
Adjust the amount of milk in the icing to achieve your desired consistency. For a thinner drizzle, add more milk; for a thicker drizzle, add more confectioners' sugar.

Amazing recipe! Everyone loved it and asked for seconds!

The cinnamon drizzle solidified quickly. Next time I will make the waffles first, so the drizzle doesn't cool down too much before I serve it.
