Use gloves when handling habanero peppers to avoid skin irritation. For a milder flavor, remove more of the habanero seeds and membranes. Adjust the cooking time depending on your desired level of caramelization. The longer they cook, the sweeter and richer they become. These onions are best served warm, but can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently before serving.
