Follow The Directions

01

Step

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, chili powder, paprika, cumin, adobo seasoning, and cayenne pepper. Add the pork pieces and toss thoroughly to ensure each piece is well coated. (5 minutes)

02

Step

Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Working in batches to avoid overcrowding the pan, sear the pork pieces on all sides until nicely browned. This step is crucial for developing rich flavor. Transfer the browned pork to a slow cooker. (20 minutes)

03

Step

In the same skillet, add the chopped onions and cook over medium heat until softened and translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant. Stir in the diced tomatoes, barbecue sauce, brown sugar, and hot sauce. Bring the sauce to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened. (12 minutes)

04

Step

Pour the sauce over the pork in the slow cooker, ensuring the pork is mostly submerged. Cover and cook on Low for 5 to 6 hours, or on High for 3 to 4 hours, until the pork is very tender and easily shredded. (360 minutes)

05

Step

Once the pork is cooked, transfer it to a large plate or cutting board. Use two forks to shred the pork into bite-sized pieces. Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and stir to coat it evenly with the sauce. (8 minutes)

06

Step

Continue to cook, uncovered, on Low setting, until the sauce has thickened to your desired consistency, about 10 to 15 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking. (15 minutes)

For an extra layer of flavor, try adding a tablespoon of smoked paprika to the spice blend.
If you prefer a sweeter pulled pork, increase the amount of brown sugar to 1/3 cup.
Feel free to adjust the amount of hot sauce to suit your spice preference. Start with less and add more to taste.
Serve the Spicy Pulled Pork on toasted buns with your favorite coleslaw and pickles.

So easy to make and the pork was incredibly tender. I served it at a BBQ and everyone raved about it.

I was a bit skeptical about the spice level, but it was just right. Not too overpowering, but definitely a kick. I'll be making this again!

  • Berniece Collier

The only change I made was to use a pork shoulder instead of a loin. It came out so moist and flavorful!
