Follow The Directions

01

Step

In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar using an electric mixer until light and fluffy. (5 minutes)

02

Step

Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract, until well combined. (2 minutes)

03

Step

In a separate bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. (3 minutes)

04

Step

Shape the dough into a log, wrap it in parchment paper or plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 1 hour, to allow the dough to firm up. (30-60 minutes)

05

Step

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

06

Step

Slice the chilled dough into 1/4-inch thick rounds. Shape each slice into a narrow wedge, about 3 inches long. For the mummy heads, roll small pieces of dough into balls and flatten them slightly. Press the flattened balls onto the wide end of each wedge. (15 minutes)

07

Step

Place the cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are set. (8-10 minutes)

08

Step

Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 1 minute before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. (10 minutes)

09

Step

In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the white chocolate chips and vegetable shortening. Microwave in 20-second intervals, stirring in between, until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth. (2 minutes)

10

Step

Dip the top of each cookie into the melted white chocolate, or spread it with a small spatula or butter knife, to create the mummy's bandages. (15 minutes)

11

Step

Use a toothpick to create lines for the bandages on each cookie. Add miniature chocolate chips to the mummy heads for the eyes. (10 minutes)

12

Step

Let the white chocolate set completely before serving. (30 minutes)

For a smoother white chocolate coating, add a teaspoon of coconut oil to the melting chocolate.
If the white chocolate becomes too thick to work with, microwave it for a few more seconds and stir.
Feel free to add a drop of food coloring to the white chocolate to create different colored bandages.
Store the cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
