Follow The Directions

01

Step
7 mins

In a large Dutch oven or heavy-bottomed pot, heat over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned and crumbly. Drain off any excess grease. (5-7 minutes)

02

Step
10 mins

Add diced potatoes and chopped onion to the pot. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the onion is softened and translucent. (5-10 minutes)

03

Step
20 mins

Pour in milk, then add the processed cheese food and Cheddar cheese. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring frequently to prevent scorching. Reduce heat to low and continue to simmer, stirring often, until the cheeses are completely melted and the chowder is smooth. (15-20 minutes)

04

Step
5 mins

Season the chowder generously with freshly ground black pepper, to taste. For a thicker consistency, stir in the mashed potatoes. Cook until heated through and the chowder has thickened to your desired consistency. (about 5 minutes)

For a richer flavor, try using a combination of ground beef and ground pork.
Feel free to add other cheeseburger toppings, such as crumbled bacon, diced pickles, or sliced tomatoes, to the chowder.
If you prefer a thinner chowder, reduce the amount of mashed potatoes or add more milk until you reach your desired consistency.

I used sweet potatoes instead of white and it added a nice sweetness to the soup!

I didn't have Velveeta, so I used all cheddar. It was still delicious, but a bit grainier.
